Creative Range Hood Duct Cover Solution

Most kitchen range hoods can be used in “recirculating” (also called “ductless”) mode, or connected to an outside duct. In a recirculating installation, charcoal filters trap odors before the air is released back into the room. Unfortunately, the charcoal filters restrict airflow (by as much as 40-45% in some cases), and require regular replacement. For these reasons, it’s always recommended to connect a range hood to an outside duct.

However, it’s not always possible to hide a duct inside the wall or ceiling, and sometimes the only way to reach the outside wall is to make the duct exposed. This creative solution by Belgian architectural firm Lhoas & Lhoas showcases a way to make the duct not only concealed, but actually making it look like part of the room decor – and a cool part at that!
